This nonprofit's initiative is a technology-free arts program for young people ages 4 months to 16 years old created to counter challenges of inequitable access to the internet and learning devices and has grown to complement the learning environments of young people.
Each month, approximately 300 individual kits are filled with educational arts-based activities created by the nonprofit's Teaching Artists that allow students to learn, express themselves, and have fun through self-guided instruction. Students are provided with the monthly activity’s art supplies, workbooks, and the opportunity to bring their individual kit home to decorate and engage with whenever inspiration strikes!
These kits allow students to hone their creative capacity, language acquisition skills, creative problem-solving skills, and innovation through a combination of visual and performing art relying on the workbook and their own imagination. Similar to the goals in any of the nonprofit's classrooms, the activities included in the workbooks couple the arts with one of the nonprofit's Core Skills (initiative, courage, community, positive identity, and creative capacity).
The kits go straight from your hands into those of young people at the nonprofit's community partners across the city, including Win NYC! To see the Creative Activity Kits in action, watch this short video to get a glimpse of this project’s impact on the local community.
