What you’ll do

This nonprofit offers team-building events, talks, and workshops that center around posters as important tools within movements for change. This experience is highly customizable and can touch on several topics such as women’s suffrage, immigrant rights, labor unions, environmental activism, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and more. 

Through a brief, engaging presentation, you will discover how the iconography of posters has become so ingrained in the cultural landscape that they have become shorthand for entire movements.

After the presentation, you will make your own poster focusing on the presented subject matter. You will be introduced to poster design elements such as line, color, and communication and have the opportunity to share your designs.

Agenda:

  • Welcome and Introduction (5 minutes)
  • Introduction to the Nonprofit and Its Mission (5 minutes)
  • Presentation on Poster Iconography and Historical Influence (25 minutes)
  • Poster Making Workshop (1 hour)

What else you should know

  • Depending on the materials agreed upon, participants may need to buy or receive basic art supplies by mail. A list of suggested materials will be provided in advance.
  • No previous knowledge of posters or poster-making is needed.
  • This experience may also be conducted online using Visit.org's built-in virtual event feature so you can enjoy interactive breakout rooms.
